A New Obsession

Welcome to the Existentialist Photographer. I've been working on ideas about this site since I decided to put it together last year. After several starts and pauses waiting for inspiration that would make the site something pretentious and elaborate I've decided that is the wrong approach to take. In the end its all about the simple act of making a repository of photos I find provocative and thoughtful. My wife and I are but humble amateur photographers who can be somewhat obsessive about recording the life and times of our beautiful little girl who is the centerpiece of our lives. She clearly reflects that obsession in her blog Jamie and Us with an abundance of photographic evidence and motherly prose. The reason for this blog on the other hand is dedicated to the capabilities of our new digital camera investment and the abilities (or inabilities for that matter) of its owner/operators. The Canon Rebel xsi EOS digital camera is the investment in question and will be the main vehicle of photos posted on this blog along with our point and shot cameras: my wife's Canon PowerShot SD 1200 SI digital camera & my personal (originally my wife's) Samsung S730 7.2 mega pixels digital camera.

I have always found photography to be not only intriguing but fascinating for what it tells the viewer. The camera eye does not lie (notwithstanding graphic image augmentation of course) and its unambiguous nature can be both unforgiving and myopic or insightfully perceptive and sympathetic. The dichotomous nature of its existence as a cold inanimate object capable of reflecting levels of emotional complexity in its product that defy human utterances holds a level of fascination for me I cannot describe. Since words are not at my command to do so there is only the simple action of posting the images and letting them speak for themselves.
